19 U.S. Film Festivals to Receive $300,000 from Film Academy

Beverly Hills, CA — The Academy Foundation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has allocated $300,000 to 19 U. S. film festivals for calendar year 2006 programming, Festival Grants Committee Chair Gale Anne Hurd announced today.

Two additional festivals, the Los Angeles Film Festival and the Telluride Film Festival, have received $50,000 each under a special multi-year grant program designed to give them assurance of funding for long-term projects.

The 19 festivals will receive grants ranging from $30,000 to $4,000.

The $30,000 grant will go to the New York Film Festival.

$25,000 grants — to the Chicago International Film Festival and the San Francisco International Film Festival.

$23,000 grant — to the Cleveland International Film Festival.

$22,500 grant — to Outfest: The Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Film Festival.

$20,000 grants — to the Austin (Texas) Film Festival and the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival.

$15,000 grants — to the Maryland Film Festival (Baltimore), Nashville (Tennessee) Film Festival, Native American Film and Video Festival (New York City), San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival, USA Film Festival (Dallas), and the Virginia Film Festival (Charlottesville).

$12,500 grants — to the River Run International Film Festival (Winston-Salem, North Carolina).

$8,000 grants — to the Black Maria Film & Video Festival (Jersey City, New Jersey) and the Boston Jewish Film Festival.

$6,000 grants — to the African Diaspora Film Festival (New York City) and the Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival (Colorado Springs, Colorado).

$4,000 grant — to the Cascade Festival of African Films (Portland, Oregon).


The Festival Grants Program was established by the Academy in 1999 and to date has made 123 grants to film festivals.
