Alcatel-Lucent provides Local Area Network solutions to Republic of Korea Air Force
Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) has announced that it will provide Local Area Network (LAN) solutions to the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF), reaffirming its ability to provide network solutions for national defense agencies. This network upgrade project will enable the Air Force to improve its network capacity and performance.
Alcatel-Lucent will install high-capacity backbone switch, OmniSwitch 9800(OS9800), work group switches,OmniSwitch 6850-24, and the OS 6850-48 at Air Force bases across the country. The upgrade will prepare the Air Force for anticipated traffic growth resulting from increasing Triple Play Services as it builds its e-Learning infrastructure for the Air Force Academy and Training Command and Flight school.
OS9800 is an intelligent multi-layered switching platform with the industry’s best capacity equivalent to carrier standards. The system supports up to 384 gigabits Ethernet ports and 96 ports of 10G capacity. Designed in a distributive structure, the switch enables complete duplication and restoration, outstanding multi-layered security features, and processes IPv6 packets in a hardware method.
“Providing advanced technologies and services to a military agency which requires thorough security and stability is a real challenge,” said John Yang, President of Alcatel-Lucent in South Korea. “Alcatel-Lucent is well-positioned to serve government agencies, large corporations, and educational organizations including universities, which also require LAN solutions with high security and performance.”
