The American Board of Industrial Hygiene® Elects New Chair, Vice Chair and Several Board of Director Members

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene® is pleased to announce the start of Jeffrey R. Miller’s term as Chair of the ABIH® Board of Directors.

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene® is pleased to announce the start of Jeffrey R. Miller’s term as Chair of the ABIH® Board of Directors. The Board also elected a new Vice Chair and four new Board members during its annual Fall meeting.
 
Jeffrey R. Miller, PhD, CIH, CSP is a Senior Scientist with Oak Ridge Associated Universities, a non-profit consortium of more than 120 doctoral granting universities. He is a project manager for occupational exposure and worker health studies, primarily of workers in the Department of Energy complex. He has a broad range of experience, including 10 years with state and local public health agencies and 25 years working for private sector firms providing environment, safety and health services to corporations and government agencies.  He succeeds David Roskelley, CIH, who is rotating to the board’s Past Chair role.
 
Elected as ABIH’s Vice Chair for 2017-2018 is Dirk Yamamoto, PhD, CIH, CSP, PE. He is a retired U.S. Air Force officer with an extensive background in industrial hygiene, environmental health, environmental protection and radiation safety. While on active duty, he last served as the director and assistant professor for the ABET-accredited Industrial Hygiene Master’s program at the Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Following his retirement, he began working for STS Systems Integration (SSI), LLC, providing occupational and environmental health consultation support to USAF. He is now a federal employee and is currently the Senior Industrial Hygienist, Force Health Protection Research at the US Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
 
The four new members of the Board include:
 

  • Donna Doganiero, CIH, FAIHA has had a distinguished career as an industrial hygienist, consisting of service within the Federal government and participation in professional leadership positions within the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and within the former Academy of Industrial Hygiene.


 

  • Libby Ford, QEP, CHMM, CEP, Sr. Environmental Health Engineer has over 40 years of experience working at the intersection of environmental legal requirements, what is technically feasible or practical and business decisions. She is a member of the Nixon Peabody LLP law firm’s Energy and Environmental practice group, where she works with clients on various aspects of water quality, facility siting and permitting, wastewater and drinking water compliance, site investigation, remediation and demolition, wastewater treatment and the technical aspects of environmental negotiation.


 

  • Alan Leibowitz, CIH, CSP, FAIHA is the President of EHS Systems Solutions LLC (EHS-SS) following a 30-plus-year career as the Senior Environment, Safety, Health and Security leader for ITT Corporation and Exelis. He is a Fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association and led the development of the first American National Safety and Health Management System Standard, ANSI Z10.


 

  • Jim Powell, QEP, BCEEM is currently directing the Environmental Permitting Department of Mostardi Platt, a 40-year-old environmental testing and EHS consulting firm doing work internationally. His 40+ years of technical and project experience includes environmental permitting and engineering, EHS compliance auditing and Mergers & Acquisitions due diligence with Fortune 500 companies.
