Self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet will exhibit Terry Iwanski’s The Headhunter’s Granddaughter at the 2024 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. The literary festival will take place at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, on April 20-21, 2024.

The L.A. Times Festival of Books is an annual public festival celebrating community, literature, culture, and arts. Deemed as the largest literary festival in the U.S., the event has drawn around 150,000 visitors from around the world since 1996. The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books hosts events that include performances and storytelling for children, author signings, and panel discussions.

The Headhunter’s Granddaughter is a biography that follows the life of Pedo, a Bornean woman who grew up in an abusive household in a jungle village. Pedo experienced the hardships of life, trying to find freedom from the grips of a toxic household. Her poor parents gave her away to her father’s brother to become a laborer in the rubber plantation when she grew up.

Pedo learned life skills from her grandfather, the headhunter of their village. Her grandfather defeated several Japanese men who tried to take over their village during World War II. Due to poverty, Pedo grew up naked to the world until village women gave her the clothing she needed for so many years to come.

Pedo sought freedom from her situation by taking a bus to nowhere and finding the next steps of her life.

The storytelling captures Pedo’s evolution from a young girl seeking freedom to a determined woman shaping her destiny.

The Headhunter’s Granddaughter will be displayed at ReadersMagnet’s exhibit at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2024 at booth #225. Visitors are encouraged to visit the booth to check out the book’s display.
