New Director of Multicultural Recruiting Cites MassMutual’s Commitment to this Emerging Market

Wonhong Lee accepts position with MassMutual to help financial services professionals work with multicultural communities across country

(Springfield, MA) - For Wonhong Lee, a company claiming it is committed to the multicultural market isn’t enough. “I need to know that a company is committed to multicultural markets as an integral part of its business model and is making long-term investments to effect positive change,” he said. “The commitment has to be genuine and permeate throughout the entire company.”

Lee found what he was looking for in Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual), where he has recently joined the company as director of Multicultural Recruiting. He points not only to the company’s significant marketing efforts, but to the diversity and inclusion initiative, the new business underwriting process changes and the efforts to make the field sales force better represent the neighborhoods that they serve.

“All of these ongoing cultural and strategic changes that MassMutual is making are essential for our long-term success in the multicultural markets,” he explained, “I am proud to be a part of a company that always takes an extra step to truly understand the unique needs and preferences of each community.”

Lee’s new position has been added to help the company’s financial services representatives across the country learn how to work with and recruit from the multicultural communities in their neighborhoods.

His expertise stems much more than from his Korean roots. Lee’s extensive experience in developing and implementing successful multicultural initiatives spans several years and cultures. “I’ve been involved in developing strategies to establish working relationships within virtually all ethnic groups in the Unites States and Canada,” Lee added, “including Asian, Hispanic, African American, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Eastern European populations.”

Lee is convinced that he can effect real cultural and societal change through his work with MassMutual, so much so that he has made the move from his previous home in Virginia to the company’s home office in Springfield, Mass. “I knew this was the right opportunity, at the right time, with the right company,” he concluded.
