Southern Company to provide additional wholesale power to Seminole Electric Cooperative
Tuesday, March 21, 2006, ATLANTA – Southern Company announced today that it will provide an additional 160 megawatts of wholesale power to Seminole Electric Cooperative. Today’s announcement follows a previously announced wholesale power agreement, under which Southern Company will provide Seminole with approximately 320 megawatts of electric energy from Jan. 1, 2010 through Dec. 31, 2015. With this additional 160 megawatts, Seminole’s total purchase of wholesale power from Southern Company will be approximately 480 megawatts.
Power to supply Seminole will be generated from Plant Oleander, a simple-cycle, combustion turbine electric generating plant located in Cocoa, Fla. With plants located in Alabama, Georgia and Florida, Southern Power currently has more than 5,400 megawatts of competitive generation to serve the wholesale power market.
“This announcement completes our efforts to extend contract coverage of the capacity at Plant Oleander following our purchase of this plant last year,” said Ronnie Bates, President and CEO of Southern Power. “With our reliable, efficient fleet of generating assets, we are well-positioned to serve the growing wholesale power market in Florida.”
