Voice over IP technology for enterprises receives accolade.

Munich, Mar 24, 2006, The editors of the trade magazine TeleTalk have given the “Best of CeBIT Award 2006” in the category IP telephony to Siemens’ new communications solution HiPath BizIP. The solution was chosen for the prize because of its innovative technology, outstanding features and price/performance value. It is aimed at small enterprises looking for easy communications via the Internet protocol (IP).

Switching in enterprise networks is normally handled by a complex telephone system. HiPath BizIP relocates the switching intelligence to IP phones. The phones are in turn connected to a local area network (LAN), giving them access to the IP network. The phones configure themselves with the help of the integrated peer-to-peer software.

The new solution enables low-cost calls via the Internet and ISDN. It also supports all customary phone services, such as conferences, speed dialing, caller lists and a personal answering machine. It is scalable, allowing up to 16 phones to be connected easily. Its quality of service, reliability and resilience meet all the demands of enterprises that are fulfilled by conventional phone systems.

HiPath BizIP stands out with low investment costs, since users do not have to create their own communications infrastructure. Installation and maintenance costs are also lower because the software does away with the need for complex configuration of the phones and a Web tool makes administration simple.

Arne Grävemeyer, editor in chief of TeleTalk, said at the award ceremony: “We want to give our readers an overview of the highlights at CeBIT. Siemens’ solution with peer-to-peer technology for small enterprises impressed us greatly. It is truly innovative and simple to use, and it provides quick access to the IP network.”
