Wärtsilä Technology Award 2005 granted to gas engine teams from companies in Finland and Sweden
27 March 2006, Helsinki, Wärtsilä Board of Management decided to grant the Technology Award 2005 to gas engine teams from Finland and Sweden. Both teams have developed an outstanding gas engine technology for the Wärtsilä gas engines.
The Technology Award is presented by Finland’s Minister of Trade and Industry Mauri Pekkarinen and Wärtsilä’s President and CEO Ole Johansson on Monday in Vaasa, Finland.
One team has created the Adaptive Load Balancing System for large gas engines. The new adaptive load control system enables wider operating fields for the engine, since the cylinders’ operating points can be adjusted automatically much closer to each other than with the old control system. Higher loads and better efficiencies can be reached.
The other team has developed the Engine Control Software, which enables the automated load sharing between cylinders in Spark ignited Gas engines. The principle is to let the individual cylinder “do its best”. The technology allows load increase, higher compression ratio and higher efficiency for the engine.
The main criteria for the Technology Award, innovativeness and positive environmental impact as well as technical and economic benefits, promote Wärtsilä’s target to be the leader in engine technology. The price is awarded every year and now it was for the fifth time.
