The National Library of Croatia selects Endeavor Information Systems’ Voyager for Integrated Library Solution
Des Plaines, IL, April 6, 2006 — Endeavor Information Systems (www.endinfosys.com), one of the leading worldwide providers of library management software, announced today that the Republic of Croatia’s National and University Library in Zagreb has selected the company’s integrated library management system, Voyager™, for improved efficiencies in library automation, resource sharing and patron access.
“As one of the central cultural institutions in Croatia, the mission of our institution is to promote Croatian culture, research and science,” said Josip Stipanov, director of the National and University Library. “Leveraging the flexibility and power of the Endeavor solution will not only enable our staff to become more efficient in their daily work, but it will also provide citizens with the enhanced ability to interact with a wealth of historical and contemporary resources.”
Following the lead of the National and University Library, which serves in a dual capacity as both a national library and as an academic library for the University of Zagreb, five other members of Croatia’s University System are now in the process of implementing Voyager and Discovery: Resolver™, Endeavor’s OpenURL reference linking solution: University of Dubrovnik; University of Osijek; University of Rijeka; University of Split; and University of Zadar.
"The selection of Voyager by the National and University Library in Zagreb and the ensuing deployment of the solution at all six locations of Croatia’s university system demonstrates the vitality of Endeavor’s flagship library management system,” said Roland Dietz, president and CEO of Endeavor. “As these institutions progress toward their vision of a world-class, integrated library system for both independent researchers and library staff, Endeavor will complement this focus on innovation and patron support with new solutions that address not only the management of physical assets within libraries, but also the growing digital resources that have become an equally significant part of an institution’s collection"
The primary objectives of the Endeavor technology deployment in Croatia is to create a library automation system that manages the complex resource sharing needs of multiple sites, assists scholars in discovering and accessing research materials, allows staff members to automate a number of internal processes and maintains the overall quality of library databases and repositories. Future efficiencies in archiving and digital asset management are also being evaluated by the National and University Library, as Endeavor presently offers solutions addressing these and other critical institutional functions
The adoption of Endeavor software by national libraries dates back to the company’s inception in the mid-1990s. Prior to the sale with the Republic of Croatia, in 2005 Endeavor signed agreements to provide electronic resource management systems to both the State and University Library of Denmark and the National Library of Finland. In total, eleven national libraries are leveraging Endeavor software for managing their physical and digital collections.
