The Curtain Goes Up For London Theatre Breaks!

WEBWIRE

All the magic of the West End’s hottest shows is available on a tremendous range of great-value London theatre breaks for 2011, available as coach trips, rail breaks and Make-Your-Own-Way self-drive ticket and hotel packages from specialist operator Newmarket Holidays.

The capital’s thriving Theatreland is home to a host of hit musicals, including firm favourites ‘Mamma Mia’, Queen-fest ‘We Will Rock You’, Billy Elliot the Musical and Disney’s extraordinary The Lion King. Fans of ‘the Phantom’ can choose between the ‘original’ tear jerker – still packing them in – or the story’s stirring sequel Love Never Dies, which sees the drama transported across the Atlantic. Two shows featuring pop classics – Jersey Boys and the joyous Grease – pay homage to 1950s America, and then there’s the timeless, sweeping drama of Les Misérables, the divine decadence of Chicago, and the various foot-tapping and hip-swinging delights of Flashdance the Musical and Dirty Dancing – both superb stage versions of classic movies – to savour and enjoy.

When it comes to remakes from the silver screen, however, nothing has been more eagerly awaited than Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard of Oz. This new show brings Dorothy, Toto and the Yellow Brick Road Over the Rainbow and into the London Palladium in 2011, with musical theatre’s greatest star, Michael Crawford, as The Wizard. Tickets are selling faster than a Kansas tornado for this latest addition to the West End’s glittering offerings.

Newmarket’s London Theatre coach trips, which run from pick-up points across the country, include return travel, Saturday night in a four-star hotel with leisure facilities, and transfers into the West End for the selected show. Prices start at £95 per person, and even include transfers back into central London for Sunday sightseeing and shopping. A tour manager is on hand at the hotel to help point theatregoers in the right direction, and Newmarket offers ‘Deals on Meals’ in a couple of West End eateries.

Newmarket’s Make Your Own Way self-drive packages include a night in a choice of well-located hotels in the capital and a show ticket. Stay Saturday to enjoy a classic ‘Night on the Town’ or take advantage of some great discounts on top price tickets on the operator’s ‘Friday Night Specials’. Prices start at £68 for a Saturday night at ‘Oz’ prequel Wicked, with a ‘Friday Night Special’ price including a top seat at blood-curdling The Woman in Black at £69.95. All other prices vary according to hotel and show/ticket choice.

Those electing to ‘let the train take the strain’ can also choose Friday ‘Special’ or Saturday ‘classic’ theatre breaks by rail, with prices starting at £85.00.
