UGS’ “Get Started in PDM” Series Helps Mid-Size Manufacturers Increase Efficiency of Product Development

New UGS seminar series shows how to select and implement a PDM solution that leads to faster time-to-market while maintaining a low total cost of ownership

Thursday, April 27, 2006, PLANO, Texas – UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced a new global seminar series, “Get Started in PDM,” focused on helping mid-size manufacturing companies accelerate business growth by increasing the efficiency of the product development and engineering change processes through the implementation of product data management (PDM) technology.

Mid-size manufacturers face similar pressures as larger companies in trying to bring innovative products to market quickly while improving quality and reducing costs. At the same time, these companies often have limited financial, technical and human resources to address these challenges. UGS’ new seminar series is aimed at helping mid-size manufacturers address these issues.

The series takes its name from a new report, Getting Started in PDM, issued by leading PLM industry analyst firm CIMdata, Inc. The report highlights that PDM systems have evolved to meet the needs of enterprises of all types. Now mid-size manufacturers can realize the significant benefits of providing a single, shared source of design data previously only available to the largest manufacturers.

The CIMdata report states that small and mid-size companies are benefiting from “the development and delivery of out-of-the-box (i.e., preconfigured) data models, workflows and applications based on best practices that support an enterprise’s product definition information lifecycle management requirements.”
The report goes on to recommend that “all small- to medium-size discrete manufacturing companies in the market for an enterprise class data management solution remember to first define their true short- and long-term business requirements related to creating and managing their product definition information, and then look to PDM vendors that can best address them. Companies must remember that they should not only look to select the most appropriate PDM technology, but also the most appropriate vendor that shares their vision and has a proven track record of delivering quick and easy-to-implement business solutions.”
