Joe Bonamassa Talks Shop About An Historic Les Paul, His Tone, And New Music

In a new video by PremierGuitar, Blues/Rock guitar titan Joe Bonamassa talks about his “new” guitar, a beautiful sunburst ’59 Les Paul that he’s been using on the road lately. Griff Hamlin of Blues Guitar Unleashed writes, “If you haven’t heard of Joe Bonamassa, he has managed to position himself atop a pretty substantial crop of Blues/Rock guitar players. Having #1 albums on itunes, and sharing the Royal Albert Hall stage with Eric Clapton has done a lot to solidify that standing. But of course, none of it would happen with some killer blues chops which Joe has in spades.”

Griff also took it upon himself to write out a common blues lick that Joe happens to play in the video. “What a lot of people don’t realize is that once you learn a handful of common licks, you hear them everywhere and you start to recognize their sound. The beauty in blues is not the large variety of the licks, it’s the way they are put together that makes them unique.”
