Münster/Southfield. For the third time since 2002, BASF Coatings has been named a General Motors Supplier of the Year for exceptional performance as a global supplier of automotive Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) coatings.

Jay Baker, Vice President of BASF’s Coatings business in North America, accepted the award on behalf of BASF during recognition ceremonies at GM’s Vehicle Engineering Center at the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, Mich.

“As one of the major global suppliers to General Motors, BASF is very pleased to receive the Supplier of the Year award again,” said Baker. “We have always been extremely proud of our relationship with GM, and this award is a testament to the strength of that relationship. Equally important for BASF, this award is a great credit to our employees around the world who are dedicated to meeting the needs of our friends at GM with quality products and services.”

Joseph Schmondiuk, BASF Global Account Director for GM, welcomed the award as further recognition of BASF’s long-standing commitment to helping its automotive OEM customers be more successful. “BASF prides itself on its hard-earned reputation as a leading global supplier to the automotive industry, with a wide range of innovative products and services,” said Schmondiuk. “Receiving the GM Supplier of the Year award for the third time reaffirms our commitment to GM and the automotive industry and serves as further inspiration for even greater success in the future.”

“We consider BASF to be a role model for all suppliers. BASF is recognized as a GM Supplier of the Year because the company exceeded our expectations in 2005" said Bo Andersson, GM’s Vice President of Global Purchasing and Supply Chain. “BASF is one of the best in the world and we thank its employees for their hard work and commitment to helping make GM vehicles the best in the world.”

The GM Supplier of the Year award began as a global program in 1992. Winners are selected by a global team of executives from purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and logistics who base their decisions on supplier performance in quality, service, technology and price. This year, General Motors honored 85 suppliers for their outstanding performance throughout 2005.
