Phuket.Net – The Phuket International Blues Festival 2012 will be held in February

This is a prestigious annual festival in the international music calendar and features a range of blues and rock events. It began in 2005 and since then has gathered a dedicated following amongst music lovers worldwide.
 
Renowned international musicians and bands, such as Los Angeles-based Rich Harper, have been making regular appearances and the numbers of musicians and audiences has continued to grow over the years.
 
The festival is run for charity and last year donated over 100,000BHT to children’s charities, including the Phuket Rotary Club, the Phuket International Women’s Club and the ‘Phuket Has Been Good to Us’ foundation.
 
Rich Harper, AkashA from Malaysia and John Meyer’s Blues Express from Australia are three of top names appearing at the 2012 event. In 2009, Eric Bibb, one of the greatest bluesmen on the international circuit, appeared at the festival and there was the first tribute act of the event, ‘Chasing Jimi’, a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. In 2010, the festival showcased Curtis Salgado, winner of Male Artist of the Year 2010 at the Memphis Blues Foundation Awards and the inspiration for John Belushi’s performance in the movie, ‘The Blues Brothers’.
 
Visitors to the festival may choose from a range of accommodation in and around the town, with hotels and guesthouses available for singles, groups and families.
