Aerodyne Trickle Valves are Solution to Troublesome Rotary Valves
Trickle Valves Key to Maintaining Seal, Minimizing Waste
CLEVELAND, Ohio — December 1, 2011 — Aerodyne (http://www.dustcollectorhq.com/), a specialist in solving dry material handling problems, recently assisted a leading manufacturer of paints and powder-coating material by replacing current hard-to-service rotary airlock valves with Aerodyne’s trickle valves. During the production of powder-coating material, the fine material can easily become airborne, particularly during batching, pouring, and mixing operations. To minimize waste, the airborne particulate is captured by dust collectors and recycled back into the process. While the manufacturer’s dust collection system easily captured the airborne particulate, one piece of auxiliary equipment tended to cause problems. The rotary airlock valves used on the dust collectors were not maintaining a sufficient seal and more importantly, were difficult to clean between color changes. The cumbersome drive assemblies had to be dismantled and the heavy rotor needed to be removed to be sure all of the crevices were completely clean. The decision was made to replace the rotary airlocks with trickle valves from Aerodyne. These low-cost airlock valves have no moving parts and can easily be dismantled for cleaning, using no tools.
Trickle valves operate as constant discharge valves for dust collectors, hoppers, cyclones and other equipment operating under negative pressure. Their unique duck bill designs allow for dispensing dry, free-flowing material continuously. The low-maintenance trickle valves require no lubrication or power source and have no controls, whereas rotary valves require a power-driven motor making the trickle valve the lowest-cost solution. They are ideal for "keep empty" dust collection units and are available in carbon steel or stainless steel versions.
