GRAND RAPIDS, MICH., June 5, 2012 – American Seating announces on the eve of the NeoCon:
- A new permanent showroom at Chicago’s Merchandise Mart.
- A new product line, the Us™ Chair Family.
- Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC) Chain of Custody certification.
American Seating’s new showroom (10-148) is designed by Jeff Weber of Studio Weber + Associates. The colors were selected by Laura Guido-Clark. The showroom is a combination of a learning environment, a museum art gallery and a café.
The Us™ Chair Family is designed for universal appeal, from learning environments to cafés to the office. “The learning/working environment of the future is one of fluidity,” said American Seating Architectural Environments Market Manager Doug Oswald. “Architects, designers and specifiers of space – and consumers of space – expect continuity in design, a refined aesthetic.”
“American Seating’s recent FSC certification is another statement of our commitment to sustainability,” said Sarah Zielinski, product manager for American Seating’s Architectural Environments business. “We previously sourced FSC-certified materials, but now that we’ve received certification as a company, we can continue the chain of custody to provide finished products that are FSC-certified from responsible sources.”
The certification process, which began last fall, was led by Linda Garland, the company’s quality assurance specialist, and included review of American Seating’s product lines as well as its manufacturing facilities. All of American Seating’s products are made in the company’s Grand Rapids, Mich., U.S.A., facilities – the same geographic footprint as when the company first formed in 1886, a statement to American Seating’s commitment to the community and its local workforce.
American Seating is one of only a few companies in the educational furniture industry to have achieved FSC certification.
American Seating’s FSC certification is through Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), one of the world’s leading FSC certifiers and one of FSC’s founding members. SCS provides third-party certification confirming that materials sold as FSC certified are harvested from well-managed forest operations.
In addition to being FSC-certified, American Seating products can help to contribute to LEED-certification levels, including LEED credits MR2, MR3, MR3.1, MR4, MR5. MR6, MR7 and IEQ4.4 and IEQ4.5.
