GE and Fina Enerji Fuel Wind Energy Growth in Western Turkey
-43 GE Wind Turbines to Power Four Projects across the Country
-Support Turkey’s Wind Power Targets and Increased Energy Independence
-GE’s 1.6-100 and 2.75-100 Wind Turbines Selected
ISTANBUL— —GE (NYSE: GE) will provide 43 wind turbines to Turkish energy developer Fina Enerji for four new projects in western Turkey, the two companies announced today at the first annual Turkish Wind Energy Congress. All four wind farms will contribute to Turkey’s energy independence while supporting the country’s investment in domestic renewable energy.
The four Fina Enerji projects will add 97 megawatts of capacity to the country’s electricity grid, enough clean energy to power 27,000 Turkish homes. “Using such machines with advanced technology will not only improve the capacity factors and capital productivities but also help to decrease our nation’s dependency on foreign sources of energy,” said Sancar Saracoglu, executive committee member of Fina Enerji.
GE will supply nine 1.6-100 wind turbines for the Kizilcaterzi Wind Farm, 10, 1.6-100 machines for the Karadere Wind Farm, 14, 2.75-100 wind turbines for the Sadilli Wind Farm and 10, 2.75-100 machines for the Salman Wind Farm. Based on proven advanced technology and an evolutionary design, GE’s 1.6-100 wind turbine is the industry’s most efficient wind turbine in its class.
“As these new projects demonstrate, our latest wind turbine technology continues to play a significant role in the development of wind power in Turkey and throughout the region,” said Vic Abate, vice president of GE’s renewable energy business. “We are pleased to work with Fina Enerji to help bring clean, domestic electricity to Turkey.”
The Turkish government plans to increase the country’s wind energy production to 20,000 megawatts by the year 2023. Turkey has one of the most favorable locations in the region for wind energy, with a potential wind power capacity of 48,000 megawatts. Much of that potential remains untapped, as the country’s existing wind farms produce about 1,800 megawatts.
