2013 International Fly Tying Symposium with Great Feathers

The Fly Tying Symposium is in Somerset, N.J. on November 23rd and 24th. This is the weekend before Thanksgiving, so it won’t interfere with the holiday. The show times are 9:00a.m. - 5:00p.m., and Saturday and 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Costs are $20 for the weekend pass, $15 for Saturday and $12 for Sunday. Anyone under 16 years of age will get into the show for free.

The Fly Tying Symposium is a great opportunity for fly tiers to convene and get answers, find materials and watch other tiers. It also provides an opportunity to meet with and discuss tying with many of the best tiers in the world. This includes many of the top authors and tiers who have made an impact on the industry and trend setters who are up-and-coming. You can have books signed and find out techniques that you have wondered about or need to perfect. There are also a number of the best salmon fly tiers which are always showing and selling some of the most beautiful classis and interpretive flies around. They are truly works of art.

Each day of the show, there are an assortment of classes and seminars that are offered. The classes must be signed up for, in advance, to reserve your spot and some of them do have a fee. Instructors teaching include Enrico Puglisi, Bob Clouser, Gary Borger, and Hans van Klinken, just to name a few. There will also be casting clinics on both days, if you feel the need to brush up on your skills. All through both days will be demonstrations on tying, casting and fly presentation, which are all open to the public.

This show is a must for fly fisherman and tiers of all skill levels and abilities. There are very few opportunities throughout the year to come in contact with this many influential people in the fly fishing and fly tying industry. The experience and the lessons learned there will be priceless and rare. Don’t waste the opportunity. Great Feathers will be set up at the show with most of our fly shop in tow. We bring a large selection of fly tying supplies and materials, with some “Sale” goodies.  Our staff of professional fly tyers and fly fisherman will be available for consultation.
