Paul Stancato to direct and choreograph National Tour of FLASHDANCE 2015-’16
A re-conceived version of the 1983 hit film, FLASHDANCE, will hit the road in October with Paul Stancato at the helm.
Stancato states, "I am truly excited to work with the creative team on this new version of the musical. My hope is to bring that edge and grit that was in the movie, as well as the energy and feel that was the early 1980’s."
Flashdance tells the inspiring and unforgettable story of Alex Owens, a Pittsburgh steel mill welder by day, and a bar dancer by night, with dreams of one day becoming a professional performer. When romance with her steel mill boss threatens to complicate her ambitions, Alex learns the meaning of love and its power to fuel the pursuit of her dream.
The musical features a score including the hit songs from the movie, including “Flashdance – What a Feeling,” “Maniac,” “Gloria,” “Manhunt” and “I Love Rock & Roll". In addition, 16 brand-new songs have been written for the stage.
Directed and choreographed by Paul Stancato (Jekyll and Hyde, House of Dancing Water, The Wedding Singer), Flashdance features a book by Robert Cary and Tom Hedley (co-writer of the original screenplay with Joe Eszterhas) with music by Robbie Roth and lyrics by Robert Cary and Roth.
