The story unfolds a myriad of wonderful, helpful characters...

Not every family is nestled in a warm and secure house with complete necessities. There are those that struggle every day just to get by. “Little Gray Hoodie Coat,” the new children’s book by Cynthia R. Hobson, tells a story about Lillian McDaniel, a single mother, and her two kids Jasmine and Lillie, and how they grew from being shelter-less to finding happiness.

The story begins from 1993 and ends in 2013. A simple African-American family starts from living without a home, living in a van, to being residents at Augustus Tolton Homeless Shelter in Chicago, Illinois, owned by the Saint Augustus Catholic Church. The story unfolds a myriad of wonderful, helpful characters that enter the family member’s lives, and how young Jasmine and Lillie grew up from being lesser privileged to more than grateful.

“The story is easy to read, serious but light and humorous, family-oriented and faith-based.  It can open up discussions between adults and children about the importance of family, friends, love, etc.; and what it means to be charitable to others who need help,” states the author.

Filled with rich life lessons paired with just as wonderful illustrations, the book is sure to be well-loved by kids as well as adults.
