Cleanaway’s Sustainable Recycling is Making a Difference
Sustainable waste management leader Cleanaway is putting metal and plastic back where they belong - in new generations of recycled products.
Every time you recycle with Cleanaway you are helping keep metal and plastic out of the environment and putting the materials back into new bikes, barbecues, and wheelie bins. Cleanaway is a leader in sustainable recycling and offers environmentally friendly solutions for your business and home.
Cleanaway Executive General Manager Sales and Marketing Dave Aardsma says recycling in Australia has matured to a point where it is becoming the first instinct when we are looking to throw things away.
“We work with businesses all over the country to minimise landfill costs by maximising their recoverable and recyclable waste,” Mr. Aardsma said. “That means the waste you recycle with Cleanaway ends up creating new products without harming the environment.”
”Steel tins, for instance, are baled and sold to recyclers to be remade into steel products and packaging,” Mr. Aardsma said. “Steel is 100 per cent recyclable so these recycled steel ingots can be used to make new car bodies, cans, aerosols, bikes, barbecues, furniture and whitegoods. We recycle aluminium too - it’s just as good quality as aluminium made straight from bauxite and is more environmentally friendly.”
Recycled plastic is used to make new containers, wheelie bins, guideposts, fence pickets, irrigation pipes and fleece jumpers, while paper and cardboard is turned into pulp, and then back into paper and cardboard again.
Cleanaway offers commingled recycling (single bin for your recyclables) as a simple, ideal solution for small businesses who want to recycle without the time and space burden of multiple bins.
“We also have packaging recycling, which is a bespoke option for businesses that create a lot of packaging waste,” Mr. Aardsma says. “Place cardboard, paper, plastic film, pallet shrink and stretch wrap, and polystyrene in the one bin, confident in the knowledge it will be separated and recycled at our bespoke facility.”
If your business uses a lot of paper and cardboard, a dedicated bin can open up a range of recycling rebates that are not available on commingled bins.
Cleanaway also turns organic waste into compost, mulch, and, in some cases, nutrient intensive liquid fertiliser.
”It’s a great result for your waste costs and the environment"
