Vyvanse Savings Guide now available from RxGo.com
No Insurance? RxGo.com shares a couple ways to save on Vyvanse, a very expensive medication for ADHD.
Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) is generally prescribed to treat ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) in adults and children over the age of 6. It works by targeting the chemicals in the brain that are related to lack of impulse control and hyperactivity. It is also sometimes prescribed for BED (binge eating disorder) in adults. The active ingredient in Vyvanse is a federally controlled substance, and may have habit-forming risks.
Although generics are generally much less expensive than name brand prescriptions, there is no FDA approved generic for Vyvanse. Patients can expect to pay as much as $350 out-of-pocket for Vyvanse (without insurance coverage). Even with coverage, co-pays for Vyvanse will likely be higher than with a generic drug.
Until a generic version is developed, Vyvanse prescriptions will probably be rather pricey; especially considering these prescriptions are meant to be taken over a long period of time. Costs begin to add up quickly, however, there are other ways for patients to offset pharmacy costs. For starters, a Vyvanse discount card can save you a great deal of money at the pharmacy.
Manufacturer Coupons for Vyvanse
Regardless if you have health insurance or not, Shire, the manufacturer of Vyvanse, has a savings offer that is available directly through their website. It requires that you sign up for discount offers, and asks that you provide your name, address, and email information. If you have insurance your copay can be brought down to as little as $30 and the offer is good for up to $60 off per prescription; with an absolute maximum of 12 prescriptions (refills), or $720 total.
Patient Assistance Programs for Vyvanse
In addition to a specific coupon for Vyvanse, Shire offers further savings options. Called Shire Cares, this program includes a list of medicines which qualify for additional Shire assistance. In addition to Vyvanse, Shire Cares can help you pay for prescriptions of: Carbatrol, Fosrenol (Chewable and oral), Lialda, Pentasa, and Xiidra.
Patients can download information and an application directly from Shire’s website. You can also email them at ShireCares@shire.com or call 1-888-227-3755 for more information. The phone lines are open Monday−Friday, 8am−8pm Eastern Time.
And finally, Medicare recipients may also qualify for additional governmental assistance on the costs of their prescriptions. Check out the SSA’s Extra Help Program online to see if you qualify.
