New Children’s Book Series Teaches a Thing or Two about Courage

Written by school teacher Megan Lindburg and illustrated by Rachel Chambers, Conrad the Courageous: The Uncommon Cardinal Series (AuthorHouse, 2017) is a delightful children’s story about courage. This full-color picture book makes a great reading material for children starting kindergarten and first grade – kids who are about to take their first step into an awesome world of possibilities and opportunities.
 
Conrad the Courageous tells the story of the titular character and his struggle with making his first flight. On the day he would take his first flight from the nest, Conrad is overtaken by fear of heights. While contemplating staying in the nest forever (and dismissing the need to fly), he sees his friends taking flight from their nests. Conrad wants to join them but his fear still overwhelms him.
 
This full-color children’s picture book tells kids it is okay to fear before the start of any new task but also reminds them to not let their fears get the best of them. They will find the reality is different once they step out of their comfort zone, embark on a new journey, and venture into a new world. There will always be problems at the start of a new task or at the beginning of a new chapter in life, but losing hope and confidence in oneself is never the option.
