Blackburn Hopes for an FA Cup Shocker When They Face Arsenal in Saturday Semifinal; Live Coverage Begins at 7 a.m. ET On Fox Soccer Channel
LOS ANGELES--April 13, 2005--It’s been over 75 years since Blackburn Rovers brought the FA Cup trophy home to Ewood Park. On Saturday, Blackburn will clash with Arsene Wenger and his Gunners, who are playing in their fifth consecutive FA Cup semifinal, at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. Fox Soccer Channel will have live, exclusive coverage of Saturday’s much anticipated match starting at 7 a.m. ET.
Arsenal’s Freddie Ljungberg helped his team advance to the semifinals by scoring his third FA Cup goal this season, giving the Gunners a 1-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers, who were playing a man down for all but 10 minutes of their quarterfinal match. The North London side heads into Saturday’s battle against Blackburn with a long and successful FA Cup history, having won the trophy nine times, including back-to-back triumphs in 2002 and 2003. Arsenal hopes to erase the memories of last year’s heart-breaking defeat at the hands of Manchester United in their classic semifinal clash.
Blackburn Rovers qualified for the semifinals after a dramatic 1-0 victory over Leicester City. In the 82nd minute, Blackburn was awarded a questionable penalty, and Paul Dickov converted to give his team the victory against his old club.
