The book tells the story of a seemingly ordinary American, starting from his boyhood years up to his old age. Raised during the Great Depression and living through World War II, Edgar Brown has a wealth of insight only gained through experience to share. He recalls being in his college dorm room when he heard about the attack on Pearl Harbor on the radio. He knew he would get drafted, but he wanted to be a pilot, so he enlisted to be part of the US Navy and soon served in the South Pacific.
 
In great detail, Edgar tells readers what it was like during the war. He provides an inside look into the lives of marines and all the triumphs and tragedies that he and his comrades shared. After his time in the US Navy, he readjusted to life after the war and took up a profession in education.

About the Author
Edgar Brown was a war veteran who served in the US Navy during World War II. After the war, he settled into civilian life as a music teacher and counselor. He met his wife, Judith A. Brown, who is also an educator at the school that they were both teaching in. Edgar passed away in February 2017, at ninety-six years old.
