With a total amount of €726,000, the Finnish Film Foundation will support ten documentary projects to be produced by Finnish-based production companies or involving Finnish minority co-producers. Among others, the upcoming documentary Brides of Nepal (directed by Tiina Madisson, Icebreaker Productions) receives €110,000 in production support. The project had previously been co-developed and pitched at the EDN pitching forum Lisbon Docs 2017. Brides of Nepal takes a closer look at the implications of forced marriage at a young age and asks how this affects both the childhood and mental landscape of a young girl who grows up in the midst of violence.

Further supported documentary projects include Shannon Kring’s End of the Line: The Women of Standing Rock with Finnish minority co-producer Solar Films - the project focuses on the story of a group of indigenous women in the U.S. willing to risk their lives to stop the Dakota Access oil pipeline construction that desecrated their ancient burial and prayer sites and threatens their land, water, and very existence.
