TestAmerica Expert to Present at AEHS Annual Conference

TestAmerica, the leader in environmental testing, is pleased to announce its participation in the Association for Environmental Health and Sciences Foundation’s 28^th Annual International Conference on Soil, Water, Energy and Air in San Diego, California.  TestAmerica Expert, Karla Buechler, will deliver a presentation entitled Closing the PFAS Mass Balance: The Total Oxidizable Precursor (TOP) Assay on Wednesday, March 21 as part of the Conference’s session on Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS).
 
Ms. Buechler’s presentation will focus on the emerging analytical practice of utilizing Total Oxidizable Precursor (TOP) Assay as a means of identifying PFAS risk potential present in the environment.  Current and historical methodologies for the analysis of PFAS compounds are designed to measure a discrete list of approximately 20 compounds.  There are, however, many additional PFAS compounds that are not determined as discrete compounds by these existing analytical methods, thus resulting in a potentially underestimated PFAS risk potential.
 
The TOP assay procedure rapidly converts perfluoroalkyl acid (PFAA) precursors into PFAAs, including Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), using a hydroxyl radical-based chemical oxidation method.  TOP Assay allows for quantification of PFAS compounds that could be converted to PFAAs in the environment, thus providing a more accurate PFAS risk assessment when compared to a stand-alone PFAS analysis. Ms. Karla Buechler has more than 30 years’ experience in the environmental testing industry, and is renowned in the industry for her knowledge on PFAS analytical practices and other chromatography systems, such as Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry and High Resolution Mass Spectrometry.
