Tensions Arise between Two Factions in Political Novel
Medical doctor pays homage to the struggle in achieving democracy
“A message of hope in time of adversities”
“A message of hope in time of adversities” is what author Claude Pierre-Jerome hopes to impart to his readers in Courage and Dignity.
The story begins in September of 1973, in Santiago de Chile, amid the chaotic military coup against the Chilean government. One of the instigators, Gen. Benito “the Cat” Renecat, vowed that he would violently eliminate his enemies. One of which is Lt. Col. Alberto “the Rat” Monserrat. Their rivalry pulled the country apart, discriminating people for their ideological beliefs and displacing them from their homes.
The novel also sheds light on the difficulties of being a refugee—escaping a war-torn nation to seek asylum in another. As a parting note, the author asserts that the book was written for everybody most especially those who have been victims of autocracy, dictatorship, and obscurantism.
Courage and Dignity is one of the books featured in the prestigious 2017 Frankfurt Book Fair from October 11 to 15, 2017.
