In a game of Jenga, one must be able to balance the building even if one block is missing. In the same way, if the foundation of a certain idea is well thought of, the building will stand tall despite the doubts, hesitation, and reluctance. But if it is not well built enough, like the building, it will collapse. George Hinds strengthens the ideas of the origin of infrastructure through his book “Damaged Flight: However, The Lark Is Still Ascending.”
It is difficult for someone to fully understand the concept of Egyptian architecture, especially since what readers usually read in history books are the economy and social stratification of a certain government of a certain period in history. Using Ancient Egypt as the subject background for their book, the authors, George and Christopher Hinds, focus on the topic of infrastructure and its integration to modern-day societies.
In “Damaged Flight,” the authors discuss the accomplishments of various pharaohs in terms of infrastructure, even in the time when Rome conquered Egypt. It talks about the sphere of influence of the Greeks and the Romans towards Egypt. They discuss at length Ancient Egypt’s most famous architecture, the pyramids.
Through their book, the authors give a historical perspective on the new and modern architectures. They parallel old architectures to modern ones. Aside from history, they also discuss the future problems society might face due to the global ecological issues.
“Damaged Flight: However, The Lark Is Still Ascending” is a very informative book. Readers can easily testify that after reading this book. No matter how many blocks of ideas one will question, the building will not collapse, because there is no room for doubts.
