Debra J. Mines – on “Stinky Shoes” and Its Creation in a Radio Interview with AMI Radio
Children’s literature is significant in catering the mental development of every child.
Author Debra J. Mines talks about her lighthearted, humorous book “Stinky Shoes” and her passion for education that eventuated to the birth of the book in a radio interview last Friday, October 5, 2018, with Blog Talk Radio: Blog Talk Radio Link.
One time in class, Mines showed her students a magic box and let them guess what was in it. Since it was a shoe box, the students were quick to think that inside it was a pair of shoes—there were no shoes inside the box. She opened the lid of the box, took a peek, and exclaimed in a feigned disgust, “Phew-oo-oo-oo-wee! It’s so stinky!” upon finding out stinky shoes in the box. There was a peal of laughter from the class. This event birthed into “Stinky Shoes”.
“Stinky Shoes” is not only a story weaved with a healthy humor but is also an educational tool that aims to inculcate the dangers of desperate wishes. Moreover, the book’s rich figurative language effectively guides young learners, specifically grades K through 2, to write a unique story of their own.
