Coleman Lewis Coates emphasizes obedience to God’s Word in book

The author expounds what the Bible says about evil, war, and justice and discusses the ideal Christian response to war.

Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA – WEBWIRE

To be a peacemaker is to be an active and obedient listener of God’s Word.

Retired minister Coleman Lewis Coates published “The Listeners: Should Christians Participate in War?” (Redemption Press; 2017), where he asserts that there is no biblical justification for a Christian to go to war. Any Christian involvement in war or armed conflict goes contrary to the mission of Jesus and His Church. Said the author, “God has never allowed his people to decide for themselves on war.”

At the heart of the author’s preaching of the incompatibility of the Gospel and warfare is a message of obedience to the Word of God, which is something Adam and Eve lacked. Rather than be listeners of God’s Word, Adam and Eve became disobedient. “They ignored their Creator who loved them but instead listened to the lies of Satan.”

Any readers who know the Bible could discern that through Adam and Eve’s disobedience – or rather, rebellion – and because of Satan’s deceit, evil had entered into the world in many forms, one of which is war. The author wants Christians to avoid and denounce war because “no human war fulfills God’s justice.”

The author, through his work, hopes to help his readers build obedience to God’s Word so they may not become Satan’s tool in causing strife and division, like what he did with Adam and Eve. The book will reveal to readers God’s plan and design for humanity and equip them for a mission He has in store for them. “Living the resurrection life and proclaiming it to the nations is God’s only command to Listeners today.”
