National Healthy Homes Month and the Importance of Indoor Environmental Quality for Residents of Puerto Rico
Zimmetry Environmental provides indoor environmental testing, inspections and consulting services to help ensure healthy homes, schools and offices.
In Puerto Rico, Zimmetry’s local experts are dedicated to helping to ensure and create healthy homes by offering air and indoor environmental quality (IEQ) testing and monitoring, building inspections and consulting services.
June has been recognized as National Healthy Homes Month (NHHM) ever since the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) began the month of recognition back in 2016. NHHM offers an opportunity for Americans to learn about the role healthy homes play in people’s lives.
To spread awareness of the importance of healthy homes, a number of government agencies have developed literature that is available online. This includes the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and its National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH). The agencies have created a guide called A Healthy Home for Everyone. Its purpose is to offer information about the connection between housing and health. The 16-page document offers tips, facts and figures for homeowners and tenants. It also shares some alarming figures, including the fact that 1 in 16 homes have high radon levels, 1 in 10 homes have water leaks, 1 in 6 homes have structural problems, and that 1 in 4 homes have lead-based paint and the same percentage do not have a working smoke alarm.
In Puerto Rico and throughout the Caribbean, Zimmetry Environmental is one of the leading supporters of National Healthy Homes Month. “We spend up to 90% of our time indoors as a nation and much of that time is spent in our homes,” said Harry Pena, President of Zimmetry Environmental. “Living in a residence that provides a safe and healthy environment is a key component to people’s well-being and overall public health.”
In Puerto Rico, Zimmetry’s local experts are dedicated to helping to ensure and create healthy homes by offering air and indoor environmental quality (IEQ) testing and monitoring, building inspections and consulting services. They achieve this by identifying biological and chemical pollutants, lead, asbestos, asthma triggers, allergens and respiratory irritants. If testing indicates issues are present, their professionals can help to eliminate or mitigate the concern.
Zimmetry has also sponsored a new educational video about the CDC’s A Healthy Home for Everyone guide that can be seen at: https://youtu.be/PzXgPPlE1Jk
