Detroit community benefits from support of BASF volunteers and $50,000 contribution
More than 200 BASF employees from Michigan recently volunteered to renovate a former school in the Detroit Durfee neighborhood.
This is the sixth consecutive year BASF has partnered with Life Remodeled, a Detroit-based nonprofit organization focused on cleaning up city neighborhoods and building relationships within the community. This year, volunteers focused on clearing alleyways within four square miles of the former Durfee Middle School, which is being repurposed into the Durfee Innovation Society. The building will soon house nonprofit organizations that serve children and families in the community.
BASF volunteers cleared overgrown brush and debris from alleyways to create cleaner, safer outdoor spaces for residents. Inside the building, employees installed and retrofitted lights, replaced ceiling tiles and remodeled former science classrooms. In addition to the volunteer effort, BASF contributed $50,000 to the renovation project.
“It is a privilege to contribute to the important work Life Remodeled is doing in our community,” said Greg Pflum, Vice President and General Manager of BASF’s Midwest Hub. “Our team members are always eager to support the community through this impactful and inspiring project.”
