No matter what position they may hold, Navajo Express recognizes the impact women employees can have on achieving their overall company visions and goals.

“Once a part of our team, we want to give each employee the opportunity to excel based on their work-ethic and passion for their position. Which is why you will find many women in leadership positions at Navajo,” says Staroba.

At the 2019 Accelerate! Conference, held September 30 – October 2, 2019 in Dallas, TX, the WIT announced the recipients of the 2019 “Top Companies for Women to Work for in Transportation.” This esteemed honor was created in 2018 to support the WIT’s mission of promoting the accomplishments and the employment of women in the trucking industry. Key factors in determining award recipients included corporate cultures that foster gender diversity; competitive compensation and benefits; flexible hours and work requirements; professional development opportunities; and career advancement opportunities. More than 150 submissions were received and nearly 11,000 votes were cast to determine the companies named to the list.

Navajo Express (Navajo), a nationally recognized carrier, was one of the recipients to receive the title from the WIT. This is the second year that Navajo has been recognized as a “Top Company for Women to Work for in Transportation.”

Navajo’s president, Tim Staroba, touches on their focus to hire the most qualified individuals, gender aside. “In an industry that is consistently evolving and becoming more competitive, Navajo’s mission is to hire those who can portray an enthusiastic ambition to bring innovation to our clients, drivers and team.”

Staroba adds that beyond good hiring practices, the development of a positive company culture is imperative. “Once a part of our team, we want to give each employee the opportunity to excel based on their work-ethic and passion for their position. Which is why you will find many women in leadership positions at Navajo.”

A third generation trucking company with five terminals nationwide, Navajo has a mantra to “embrace the hard things”, all while putting their drivers first. Their current fleet consists of 10% women, a number that lies above the national average.

“It’s extremely encouraging to see women excel in an industry that is known for being a male dominant,” says Staroba. “The WIT and companies on this list are all making positive strides towards an improved, inclusive trucking industry. We are thrilled to be a part of it!”

The Women in Trucking Association was founded by Ellen Voie, the WIT President and CEO, in 2007. In just a few short years, through the support of thousands of transportation-related companies, drivers and dedicated individuals, this organization has made significant steps in accomplishing its mission to be a resource and advocate for women in the industry.
