Beata Poźniak, Polish Native with English as a Second Language, Gets Three Voice Arts Awards Nominations for Best Performance

Every year the Society of Voice Arts and Sciences honors excellence in a wide range of contributions by actors, producers, marketing executives, casting directors, and many more. This year it has nominated Pozniak for three prestigious Voice Arts Awards:

A “Coming to America” story, Beata Poźniak immigrated from her native Poland at a time when her country was still under oppressive Soviet control. Arriving before the Berlin Wall came down, not speaking English and with no money or contacts, “making the transition at age 25 is a big challenge,” observed Poźniak. Beata eventually got her break from Oliver Stone, who cast her in the role of Marina Oswald opposite Gary Oldman in JFK. “I escaped from politics and my first film was such a political film,” says Pozniak. She went on to appear in many TV shows including “Mad About You”, “Young Indiana Jones Chronicles” playing Irene, who attempts to overthrow the Russian government in 1917. She also played a female President of the World on “Babylon 5.”

Now in the challenging time of COVID, Poźniak has channeled her energies into voice-overs by creating a home recording studio out of a closet. “We have to manage. Staying positive and creative is the key,” she said.  For her narration of the history of Catherine the Great, Hollywood Today beamed, “Beata Pozniak is the Empress of Audiobooks.” AudioFile Magazine acclaimed, “Narrator Beata Poźniak is a master of the many accents.” The Hollywood Times observed, “Beata Poźniak is the first non-native English speaking narrator hired by the largest publisher in the world – Random House…”

Commenting on Poźniak’s narration of a novel by Nobel Prize winner Olga Tokarczuk, Random House producer Sarah Jaffe offered praise, “Poźniak’s natural slight Polish accent and careful, skillful narration of Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead lend texture and authenticity to the audio edition, channeling the singular voice of Janina Duszejko with nuance and depth.”
