Thousands of homes in Allington now connected to ultrafast broadband
Virgin Media has connected 2,600 homes in Allington, Kent, to its ultrafast broadband network, which will bring the UK’s fastest widely available speeds to the area.
- Full fibre to the premises (FTTP) technology with average top speeds of 630Mbps
- Virgin Media’s broadband speeds are 11 times faster than the local average
- 4K movies and computer games downloaded in minutes
- Virgin Media’s engineers have worked throughout the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure that all customers have access to vital connectivity when they need it most
As part of its ‘Project Lightning’ network expansion programme, Virgin Media is expanding its ultrafast broadband network across the UK, bringing average top speeds of 630Mbps to residents and small businesses.
Allington is the latest town to benefit from Virgin Media’s investment, with the firm also rolling out next-generation gigabit broadband to its entire network of 15 million homes by the end of 2021.
Virgin Media has recently introduced a suite of measures to help extend WiFi reach and speeds throughout the home, meaning Allington residents can now benefit from the operator’s best ever WiFi coverage and speeds.
Virgin Media has continued to expand its network during the global COVID-19 pandemic to bring ultrafast connectivity to more homes and businesses across the UK when they need it most.
Ultrafast broadband boost for Allington residents – now 11 times faster than the local average
Virgin Media’s ultrafast broadband speeds are 11 times faster than the local average*. Allington will benefit from fibre to the premises (FTTP) technology which allows for smooth, reliable connectivity in the home. With a 630Mbps connection, files, films and games become very quick to stream, download and upload:
- Download in HD the entire 4th season of The Crown (10GB) in two minutes 16 seconds, compared to more than 26 minutes on the average local connection;
- Download Call of Duty Cold War (133GB) on PS5 in just over 30 minutes, compared to over 5 hours and 47 minutes on the average local connection**
Hannah Wardale, Regional Director for the South East at Virgin Media, said:
“Our investment is bringing ultrafast broadband speeds and great TV to even more homes and businesses across the UK with thousands of homes in Allington the latest to benefit.
“At a time when our services are more important than ever, whether people are watching Netflix with the family or on a Zoom call with work, our connectivity allows everyone to keep connected to the things and people that matter to them at the same time and without delay.”
