Polestar is lead sustainability partner for World EV Day 2021
Polestar is the lead sustainability partner for World EV Day on 9 September 2021, continuing support of the initiative after becoming a founding partner in 2020. Polestar recognises the importance of businesses as a catalyst for sustainable change and has outlined an ambitious goal, the Polestar 0 project, to create a truly climate neutral car by 2030. Committed to accelerate the shift to sustainable mobility, Polestar aims to inspire the rest of the car industry to move in the same direction.
Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, says: “The recent UN IPCC report underlines more than ever that we must move faster in decarbonising the transport sector to stay within the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Agreement. As lead sustainability partner for World EV Day we want to help build this sense of urgency in the run-up to COP26.”
Ade Thomas, Founder of Green.TV Media, and of World EV Day, says: “World EV Day is a catalyst for change, with a powerful message about sustainable mobility. As such, I am pleased to be working once again with Polestar, a company that is at the forefront of driving change in the automotive sector.”
Ambition is only going to create change when combined with action. Polestar is already spearheading a transparency movement in the automotive industry and was the first to publish fully transparent details of the CO2e footprint of its cars, in the form of a Life Cycle Assessment that includes full methodology. Earlier this year, Polestar introduced an industry-unique Product Sustainability Declaration, clearly displaying the CO2e impact and traced risk materials of its cars, on its website and in Polestar Spaces – tangible steps to enable consumers to make informed choices through improved transparency.
On 9 September, World EV Day will promote the role of electric vehicles in the transition to net zero and decarbonisation. Founded by Green.TV Media in 2020, the inaugural event was widely shared in the press and across social media, reaching an audience of 1.9 billion people around the world.
