Saddle Up, Partner! New ‘Quick Draw’ Update for VR Dueling Game, Blaston, Puts Players’ Gunslinging Abilities to the Test

Marking Blaston’s first birthday, leading VR studio Resolution Games today announced a new game mode with a specialized gun and premium avatar as well as a new weapon for its hit VR dueling game. But saddle up, partner, because this Blaston update is unlike any of the others -- today’s western themed “Quick Draw” update (trailer) allows players to duel wild-west style! 

In the “Quick Draw” seasonal game mode that begins September 30 and will run through later this year, players can take a break from the physical intensity of the ranked arena for an old-fashioned showdown in the dusty terrain of Greatstone Valley. Only equipped with your “Deadringer” - a new weapon skin for this game mode that spawns around you in true Blaston fashion - the quickest draw to take down their opponent wins.

1. Starting today, users on all Steam-supported headsets can enjoy a free weekend of Blaston through October 4 at 10am PT 
2. The game will also be part of Steam’s “Weekend Deal”, where new players can purchase Blaston for 30% off the $9.99 price tag through October 6 at 10am PT 
3. To further celebrate the Quick Draw update, Resolution Games is giving away a “Fistful of Blasts”! Any player that logs in to the game during the sale period (Sept. 30 at 10 AM PT to Oct. 6 at 10 AM PT) will receive a one-time free $5 worth of blasts to spend on in-game cosmetics like a unique avatar and weapon skins

“This update to Blaston is a great testament to how far the game has evolved since it launched,” explained Tommy Palm, CEO and co-founder of Resolution Games. “The initial idea for Blaston was a western-style shootout, so being able to include a nod to that in the game while also appealing to a new and broader audience is really fun.”

This new game mode is another step by Resolution Games to grow the game outside the competitive arena in the ever-expanding world of Blaston. In addition to jumping into a Quick Draw showdown between competitive matches, players can walk down Scrapper Street and hop into the Ozo Lounge to socialize with other players, play arcade games and more. 

As part of the Quick Draw update, players will also have the opportunity to participate in in-game event challenges. The challenges will take place on weekends during the course of the seasonal mode, with the first one kicking off on October 8. For more details, be sure to follow Blaston’s Discord.

A History of Blaston: One year in, and it’s bigger and better than ever
More than 3.6 million duels have been played since Blaston’s launch almost one year ago (October 8, 2020). The game, which started with the main duel mode where players face an opponent, has grown exponentially with free regular updates. The first update ported the game to Steam and launched the Ozo Lounge, a social space for players to hang out and socialize with other Blasters. Since the Ozo Lounge’s late-2020 debut, Resolution Games has added two unique lounge environments where players can start friendly duels; read and upload pictures to Discord; and play the jukebox, mini games and arcade machines. In the most recent ‘Crackdown Update,’ the world of Blaston was expanded once again with a single player campaign, a whole new environment called Scrapper Street, and even more boss fights. Now a year in, players can also join in-game ‘Challenges’ and unlock special rewards by just playing the game.
