Factored Quality Raises $5.6 Million to Help Consumer Goods Brands Seamlessly Book and Manage Quality Control Inspectors Through World’s Most Intelligent Platform

Factored Quality helps brands ensure they are producing the highest quality goods for their customers through software that provides a first-hand view of the factory floor from anywhere

New York – WEBWIRE

Factored Quality, the modern quality control platform for e-commerce and consumer goods brands, today announced it has publicly launched its product offering and raised $5.6 million in seed funding, led by Amity Ventures with participation from Dynamo Ventures, BAM Ventures, Red Antler, Very Great, and angels such as the founders/execs at Project44, Anvyl, Shipbob, Evisort, Carta, Yelp, Scout RFP, Doris Dev, Magic Spoon, and Soft Services. The company will use the capital to expand its product offering and scale its team across multiple departments.

Today, most modern brands rely on contract manufacturers to provide quality control for its products. This trend has especially been magnified during the COVID-19 pandemic because traveling to factories abroad has become next to impossible for brands who want to inspect goods in-person. With no international travel and brands not wanting to trust factories to decide the pass/fail inspection of their goods without seeing them in-person, direct-to-consumer and CPG businesses are left to choose between two equally undesirable options.

Enter Factored Quality. Its platform streamlines the entire quality control process so brands can book third party inspectors in any geographic region around the world. Brands simply choose what goods to inspect in which factories, the date, and specs. Once the inspection begins, the brand receives video and photos of the process, along with a final report that includes simple, easy-to-understand results. After the inspection is completed, both the brand and the inspector can rate and review each other.

Most legacy quality control solutions in the market are not technology-enabled and still require inspectors and brands to chat over apps or the phone to report results. Other tech-enabled solutions require long onboarding processes and an expert on the brand side who knows how to set them up. Nascent brands do not have the ability or desire to do that on their own. These brands are also decentralizing their manufacturing operations and so it doesn’t make sense logistically to send inspectors all over the world every day to provide inspections.

“The last two years have caused massive shifts in the supply chain world. Geopolitical tensions, trade wars, and logistics constraints have forced modern brands to take a decentralized and lean infrastructural approach to manufacturing,” said Prince Ghosh, co-founder and CEO of Factored Quality. “In the same way that modern brands invested in using freight forwarders like Flexport to manage shipping & logistics operations, and then used 3PL’s to manage warehousing operations, we’re building Factored Quality to help those brands scale their quality and manufacturing operations with ease.”

Factored Quality works with consumer goods brands, primarily in the consumer electronics, durable goods (i.e. cellphone cases and luggage), footwear and apparel segments. The company also works with domestic e-tail rollup companies that want to buy Amazon brands but need to inspect goods for quality during the M&A process. In those scenarios, Factored Quality sends inspectors to warehouses all over the US to essentially audit the goods before the acquisition deal closes.

The company was founded in 2021 by Ghosh, Justin Seidenfeld, Lucas Lappe, Yas Vishnu, and Lucas Fridman. Ghosh and Fridman previously founded Workbench Technologies, a supply chain management software for the e-commerce industry, and went through Y Combinator where he met Seidenfeld, the CEO of Doris Dev, a full-suite product development agency. The cofounders discussed how quality control was an antiquated process and knew it was something that had to be modernized. They decided to marry their technologies and expertise to create a node that lives within the global supply chain ecosystem to address that need.  Factored Quality was then formed from merging Workbench with Doris Dev’s quality control team & operations.

“We’re excited to partner with Prince and his team because they are simply focused on helping brands deliver great products while Factored takes on the ‘unsexy’ stuff behind the scenes. This team has the right founder market fit to deliver,” said Patrick Yang, general partner at Amity Ventures. “Having invested in other companies like Carta, Snyk, and Talkdesk for the same reasons, we’re confident that Factored Quality is well-positioned to blossom into one of the next big platforms powering brand builders everywhere.”
