Apple Health Pioneer Introduces COR: The Only Company to Measure Personal Blood Response to Food and Fitness with $12M in Funding

• COR emerges after six years in stealth as the first and only company that provides personal blood response to food and fitness
• Founding team consists of doctors, data analysts, and clinical researchers from Stanford and Berkeley, with notable investors including Khosla Ventures and Founders Fund
• Aims to help individuals understand their degree of response to medically proven nutrition and lifestyle interventions with world’s first at-home infrared spectroscopy technology

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – WEBWIRE

With COR, we’re empowering people to make informed decisions about which ‘objectively good’ practices are most impactful to them personally so that they can optimize their lifestyle choices, which has never been done before.

Today a team of doctors, data analysts, clinical researchers, and Apple Health pioneers introduced COR: the first and only in-home spectrometer that measures personal blood response to food and fitness. Using data and infrared spectroscopy (a way to glean molecular information through a beam of light), COR provides insight into how well individuals respond to scientifically proven food and fitness interventions over 21-day cycles. The company is also announcing $12M in Series A funding led by Khosla Ventures and Founders Fund, with participation from West Ventures, and Bellamack Partners. The round brings COR’s total funding to $15M to date.

Blood is often relegated to diagnostics, a means to effectively detect and treat disease during annual check-ups. But blood carries a wide spectrum of information overlooked by medically-oriented lab tests, including short-cycle personal response to things like nutrition and exercise. For the first time with COR, anyone can now see how strongly they respond to scientifically proven healthy regimens, all from the convenience of their home.

“We know certain foods like salmon and pistachios to be healthy on average as validated by the medical community, but the evidence shows that what’s good for Paul is not as good for Peter,” explains Bob Messerschmidt, founder and CEO of COR. “With COR, we’re empowering people to make informed decisions about which ‘objectively good’ practices are most impactful to them personally so that they can optimize their lifestyle choices, which has never been done before.”

‘Fitbit for Blood’: Tracking blood fitness for longevity and life improvement

COR works by measuring blood response to food and fitness regimens using infrared spectroscopy paired with a data analytics machine, over 21-day cycles — the time required to show blood response patterns. Users simply:

  1. Select a program from one of dozens of pre-made or build-your-own medically researched programs that include nutrition, fitness, and recovery ideas.
  2. Check in with COR once each week (and then one final check-in after the program ends) with a quick, painless finger prick.
  3. See blood response patterns via your COR Score, which measures your level of response to the selected program; gaining insight into how receptive your body was to that item or items.

As you continue to use COR and see improvement in your blood response, COR recommends ways to increase your COR Score by focusing on nutrition and fitness practices that your body is most responsive to. All COR data is anonymized and encrypted.

CORroborated by the scientific community

In an IRB-approved research study, COR has been validated to provide unprecedented insight into individual blood pattern response to food and fitness regimens that, though proven to be positive on average, show a range of response from person to person.

“Bob has assembled an extraordinary team of researchers and clinicians interested in making the short-term learnings from our blood more accessible. Few people realize how informative our blood is outside of doctor’s visits, and COR is providing this information for the first time. We believe COR will one day be in the homes of anyone pursuing a healthier journey,” said Delian Asparouhov at Founders Fund.

COR is currently available for early adopters for $199 with a $19.99 monthly membership. Those interested in starting their personalized blood fitness journey order COR here.
