Pirelli Cinturato Winter 2 Judged as Best Winter Tyre by Auto Bild and Tyre Seeker

The new Pirelli Cinturato Winter 2 has been judged as the best winter tyre by international publications Auto Bild and Tyre Seeker and was also classified as “recommended” by specialist outlet Tyre Reviews.

Auto Bild chose 56 tyres in 215/55 R17 size for its 2022 Winter Supertest and assessed the top 20 in snowy, wet, and dry conditions, carrying out the usual handling, braking and aquaplaning safety tests. Efficiency was also measured, including wear and rolling resistance. The Cinturato Winter 2 emerged with the joint top score and was described as “exemplary” thanks to its high performances. The magazine wrote: “Pirelli Cinturato Winter 2 showed convincing all-round talent with very good mileage and good efficiency, precise handling on wet roads and good aquaplaning qualities.”

Specialist publication Tyre Seeker tested five winter tyres in 215/55 R17 size over a snowy route on a BMW 3 Series. At the end of a sequence of tests examining handling, snow braking, lateral grip on snow, and snow traction, the Cinturato Winter 2 was declared the winner thanks to its balance between performance, ease of driving, and driver feeling.

Finally, Tyre Reviews fitted nine different snow tyres in 225/45 R17 size onto a Volkswagen Golf and tested them over a snow-covered road to assess different objective and subjective parameters. The Cinturato Winter 2 showed itself to be both efficient and safe, earning a top commendation from the title, which called it “the most fun tyre to drive in all conditions” as well as being excellent in snow handling, wet handling, and dry handling.

Pirelli has recently revamped the entire range to include technologies developed through the company’s ‘Eco-Safety Design’ approach, which combines safety and sustainability within the same product. The Cinturato Winter 2 and Scorpion Winter 2 – a winter tyre specifically designed for SUVs – are the result of that development and have a number of characteristics in common that make them particularly efficient in low temperatures. The principal innovation that they share is Pirelli’s 3D sipe technology. These sipes change shape as the tread wears down, going from a linear to a zig-zag pattern that guarantees grip on dry, wet, and snowy surfaces throughout the life of the tyre. Both tyres have been awarded the Performance Mark from renowned German certifying body TÜV SÜD^[1], which indicates performance among the class leaders in winter conditions.
