“Haff” Breed is a memoir about the ups and downs of being a mixed-race boy, now man, growing up on an Indian reservation, navigating the challenges of family dysfunction and the desire to leave his roots behind, only to return to them as an adult and try to reclaim what it means to be a Jicarilla Apache member.

He faces challenges as he tries to promote outside-the-box ideas, the promotion of the law, and new ways to improve economic development, all for the benefit of his fellow tribal members now and in the future. He soon realizes that the problems his community and tribe face are caused by those who were in power before him.

Leon helped craft, present, and get approval for the first-ever tribally owned holding company. He was dismantled by spite, jealousy, and ignorance, all from a corpus that destroys tribal sovereignty.

Follow Leon as he tells the story of his youth and his struggle to return to his tribe and serve as a local political representative and tribal council member.

Leon K. Reval is a Native American tribal rights advocate, a member of the Jicarilla Apache Nation, and a former elected leader of the nation’s Council. He has led many initiatives for the country, from asserting its sovereignty and protecting tribal assets to improving the general welfare of his people.

He helped spearhead litigation against the United States for its breach of trust responsibilities and mismanagement of tribal resources, which resulted in the United States’ payment of over $120 million to the nation. In addition to being a dedicated father of three children, he is an accomplished public speaker. He works tirelessly to advance Native American rights throughout his community and the Indian country.
