UPS Announces Technology Enhancements For Customers To Save Time And Money
ATLANTA – UPS (NYSE: UPS) today announced it is making it easier for customers to conduct business around the world through enhancements to its WorldShip®, Quantum Viewsm and Billing Solutions technology offerings.
The enhancements will save customers time and money by streamlining the preparation, management and tracking of multiple types of shipments – whether domestic or international, small package or heavy freight.
According to McKinsey & Company, global package and freight shipments are expected to more than double over the next decade with an estimated 85 percent of manufactured goods sold across borders by 2020, compared to 20 percent in 2002. As one of the largest transportation companies in the world, UPS is uniquely positioned to assist companies as they “go global.”
“Our customers, large and small, conduct business in an increasingly global economy that is driven by technology,” said Kurt Kuehn, UPS senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing. “By further improving an already robust suite of technology, we have made it easier for our customers to manage and expand their shipping operations around the world.”
More than 550,000 customers worldwide have installed WorldShip, making it one of the most widely deployed transportation software applications in the world. The latest version now being rolled out – WorldShip 9.0 – is available in 14 languages and enables customers to take advantage of three time-of-day delivery options now being offered in most major global commercial centers.
With WorldShip 9.0, customers also can do the following:
prepare shipping labels for small package, freight and international shipments.
link to UPS Internet Shipping to create a Bill of Lading for freight shipments.
determine who pays shipping charges.
determine who pays duties and taxes for international shipments.
UPS’s popular Quantum View applications, when used with WorldShip, open even more doors to managing global trade. Shippers can keep their customers notified of shipment status with Quantum View Notifysm and once shipments are en route, Quantum View Manage provides visibility into where the shipment is in the supply chain.
The new version of Quantum View Manage (like the Tracking feature on ups.com) enables customers to:
monitor and track small package shipments as well as air, ocean and ground freight shipments.
access freight document images (Bill of Lading, Delivery Receipt) for UPS Freight shipments.
access 45 days of small package data and 120 days of historical freight data.
These enhancements reflect the integration of UPS Freightsm, the former Overnite Corp. UPS’s acquisition of Overnite positioned it as a top motor freight carrier in the U.S. and expanded UPS’s transportation solutions to include a full suite of freight services.
The third broad enhancement unveiled today involves an expansion of the UPS Billing Solutions portfolio to include an electronic freight invoice. The portfolio provides customers with detailed financial information about their small package and UPS Freight shipments to enable customers to better manage their transportation costs.
