Unlocking the Science of Mindfulness: TRIPP Features Equa Health in a VR Series of Clinically Validated Meditations
The award-winning XR wellness platform partners and invests in Equa Health to bring its scientifically proven mindfulness approach to VR
“I believed in the therapeutic potential of AR and VR as tools to support well-being from the outset,” said Nanea Reeves, Founder, and CEO at TRIPP. “Dr. Creswell and his brilliant team at Carnegie Mellon University are proving as much, with evidence-based studies validating their personalized, interactive approach to mindfulness that’s not unlike TRIPP’s.”
TRIPP, the award-winning global XR wellness company, today announced an investment in Equa Health, the company building better mental health outcomes through a clinically validated approach to mindfulness training. Developed over 15 years with research from Carnegie Mellon University, Equa Health’s digitally integrated program helps users build mental resilience and mindfulness skills that can be deployed anytime, anywhere. TRIPP will bring a feature set of Equa Health’s clinically validated sessions to virtual reality, wedding science-backed curriculum with its award-winning XR experiences.
While current studies in digital therapeutics are mostly focused on managing physical pain, TRIPP and Equa Health are tending to matters of the mind through clinically validated mindfulness methods. Together the companies will develop a featured series of mindfulness training sessions that combine Equa’s evidence-based approach with TRIPP’s interactive XR experiences. Through the series, users will embark on an immersive sensory journey to develop three core mindfulness skills: concentration power, sensory clarity and equanimity.
Equa Health’s learning methodology was built by Dr. David Creswell, a psychologist and global authority in the science of meditation, and Julianna Raye, a pioneer in mindfulness coaching. Born in Carnegie Mellon University’s Health and Human Performance Lab, Equa Health’s randomized control trials have shown that after just 14 days, participants experience:
- 22% reduction in loneliness.
- 54% reduction in stress biology.
- 21% improvement in well-being in daily life.
“TRIPP’s personalized approach to mindfulness is entirely aligned with ours. Equa Health was built on the philosophy that every person has different learning needs, and we’ve tailored our scientifically-validated training techniques to cater to every individual so that more people have access to stress management support tools,” said Dr. Creswell, Equa Health CEO, and lead scientific founder.
The news follows a landmark year for TRIPP, which included a Series A extension of $11.2M led by BITKRAFT Ventures, with participation from Qualcomm, Amazon Alexa Fund, HTC, Niantic, and existing investor Mayfield, growing the company’s total funding to $26.3M. The company additionally expanded its mindful metaverse through acquisitions of EvolVR and Eden, and grew its executive team with the addition of Caitlin Krause as Chief Wellness Officer. TRIPP also received numerous accolades for its work as a pioneer in XR wellness, recently being named one of TIME’s Best Inventions and one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies of 2022.
