Introducing “The Fryeburg Chronicles,” a Series of Family-Friendly Historical Fiction
“The Fryeburg Chronicles” by June O’Donal is a series of family-friendly historical fiction set in Fryeburg, Maine. The adventures of the fictional Miller family, early settlers of Fryeburg, come alive as they use their Yankee ingenuity to survive the challenges of rural farm life during the Revolutionary War.
June O’Donal, the series’ author, developed her love and knowledge of history while homeschooling her two children. Now a retired museum educator, she spent five years teaching hands-on history to hundreds of visitors from preschool to adult. An active board member of the Fryeburg Historical Society, she designs and implements educational programs for the public.
“The Fryeburg Chronicles” series begins with “Book I: The Amazing Grace,” which follows the Miller family from 1781-1784. Through their adventures, readers will gain insight into the American Revolution, including recipes, herbal medicine, architecture, spinning, period clothing, farming, period furniture, hearth cooking, wool dyeing, geometry, timber framing, and weaving.
In addition to learning about history, readers will discover the power of family and friendship as the Miller family faces the struggles and joys of growing up. Young readers will especially identify with the characters as they navigate their own lives and learn the importance of values like hard work, faith, and courage.
“The Fryeburg Chronicles” is the perfect gift for young readers and adults alike. The series is available online, your favorite bookstore or directly from the author via: thefryeburgchronicles@gmail.com or “The Fryeburg Chronicles” Facebook Page.
June O’Donal is currently researching and planning Book VI Life of a Country Doctor. With each book in the series, readers will gain a deeper understanding of our nation’s history and the people who shaped it.
