Calvin Emerson’s Guide to Aging with God’s Grace to Be Exhibited at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2023
Though he calls them the ‘golden years,’ retired pastor Calvin Emerson doesn’t agree with whitewashing the pain, sorrow, and disappointments that come with getting old. However, he does believe that there is still beauty in life that only comes with aging. He explains why in his book, “The Amazing Golden Years,” which will be exhibited at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023.
“It is hard to see the positive outcome of a difficult situation while we are suffocating in the middle of it. We only see it as we look back and realize that we somehow navigated our tragedy.”
Retired pastor Calvin Emerson doesn’t agree with a lot of books that try to make the ‘golden years’ completely free of low points. That’s why his book, “The Amazing Golden Years,” tries a different angle. The book will be exhibited by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books on April 22-23, 2023, at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.
There is no doubt that the L.A. Times Festival of Books will have plenty of other books on ‘aging with grace,’ and Emerson respectfully thinks they miss an important point. Aging comes with its own beauty that is unique to the process.
This beauty does not come from pretending that the physical, emotional, and spiritual ailments of getting old can be wished away by ‘positivity.’ It comes from being able to look back at the most difficult challenges one has faced and realizing that they made through it anyhow.
Personally for him, he has seen it in a lot of challenges and failures. Before becoming a pastor, he had already gone through two successful careers that brought him a lot of money. The money failed to give him fulfillment.
Yet when he found his calling as a pastor, it was not as if he was suddenly promised a life with no challenges. It was through aging that he realized God was still with him, even when his faith was sorely tested at the most difficult times.
It is his hope that this different perspective on aging can help people appreciate the life they have lived.
“The Amazing Golden Years” by Calvin L. Emerson will be displayed at the ReadersMagnet exhibit at booth #225 at the L.A. Times Festival of Books. Get a copy of the book on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
