Collette Dahl Lorenzen’s “Wilber’s Scary Day!” was displayed by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. The event, which is the largest literary festival in the country, celebrates works of literature and invites authors, readers, publishing companies, and book marketers from all over the country and the world. This year’s festival was held last April 22-23, 2023, at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.
“Wilber’s Scary Day!” follows Wilber, a curious dog, and his adventures. He has a keen sense of smell and hearing that allows him to efficiently smell and hear anything nearby. The sound and smell of objects around him help him keenly observe his environment.
Due to his curiosity, Wilber easily gets distracted by new objects that get in his way. Then one day, Wilber finds himself lost in the wilderness with his boy, Oliver, not in sight. Strayed into an area he is unfamiliar with, Wilber gets scared of the new things he is exposed to.
Wilbur has to find a way back to his home and his boy. He needs to use his senses to get back on track to where his home is and where his playmate is waiting for him.
The author provides a lesson of focus in her book. Since Wilber is a character that has been loved by children, she creates a universe where Wilber and his friends get into trouble and fix them with the help of friends or self-belief.
