BrandShield Strengthens Presence in Asia with Signed Commitment to Combat Counterfeit and Pirated Goods in the Philippines
BrandShield is expanding its AI-powered cybersecurity technology to help countries in South-East Asia overcome increasing digital fraud
New York, NY (May 30, 2023) -- BrandShield (LSE: BRSD) today announces its role in establishing a code of practice in the fight against the sale of counterfeit and pirated goods online. In collaboration with renowned organizations such as Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Castrol, The Pharmaceutical Security Institute, the American, European and British Chambers of Commerce of the Philippines, and with eCommerce platforms such as Lazada and Shopee, BrandShield has joined an agreement with the Philippine Intellectual Property Authority (PIPA) to protect consumers from buying inferior and possibly dangerous products online.
Over the last decade, half of the countries in South-East Asia (SEA) are listed among the top 25 economies for the provenance of counterfeit and pirated goods, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Counterfeit and pirated goods pose a significant threat to the global economy, undermining the integrity of brands and infringing upon intellectual property rights. This growing issue necessitates collaboration between industry leaders, organizations and government authorities, which is why BrandShield is joining forces with global organizations to improve internet safety.
“Everyone has the potential to be impacted by digital threats, which is why the safeguarding of a brand’s online presence is crucial to protect both consumers and companies,” said Yoav Keren, BrandShield’s CEO and founder. “We are proud to join forces with some of the world’s largest companies and organizations and regional authorities in an effort to protect Asian brands, ecommerce marketplaces and consumers from falling victim to online scams.”
This most recent milestone is a part of BrandShield’s growing presence in Asia, where the company is actively engaging in initiatives to improve digital safety. Recently, Keren had the privilege to participate and speak at the annual International Trademark Association (INTA) meeting held in Singapore. This event serves as a gathering place for global brands to discuss fostering consumer trust, economic growth, and how to build a better society. Keren spoke at a session about the Pharmaceutical Security Institute (PSI), describing the results of BrandShield’s work for PSI in detecting and taking down fake pharmacies and counterfeited drugs sold online. Keren also spoke to the rising risks in the digital landscape and how brands and consumers can protect themselves from evolving and increasing online threats.
By joining forces with PIPA and key stakeholders in the industry, BrandShield aims to enhance cooperation and knowledge sharing, allowing for proactive and effective strategies to combat intellectual property infringements in the digital sphere. This agreement also aims to promote gender equality and social inclusion among brands and the companies involved.
