Steven Koutz’s “Shadowed Stars: The Children of Home” was displayed at the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, held at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, last April 22-23, 2023.
The book’s display at the country’s largest book festival was made possible by the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet. The company exhibited many titles by different authors. ReadersMagnet is committed to helping authors such as Steven Koutz share their stories with the world in venues such as the L.A. Times Festival of Books, which is annually attended by approximately 150,000 people all over the world.
The third book in the “Shadowed Stars” series, “Shadowed Stars: The Children of Home” is a science fiction book that follows Rico, a half-human and half-Luth Bik, who is tasked to transfer a queen to another planet as part of his first mission to save their kind from extinction. Rico was born to a human mother and a Luth Bik father who sacrificed himself to save everyone.
Rico has fully human cousins as they were children of his Aunt Eva and Uncle Slade. He was accompanied by his human cousins to help him fulfill his mission across the galaxy. Quinla is an open lesbian who believes in true love; Nata is the middle child who feels lost and is trying to find her purpose; and Jon is a young teen who needs a bit of growing up to do.
While on the mission, a rogue element sends everything into chaos and has many of the crew separated. One group struggles with a hostile kingdom takeover. The other group faces a villain who can control minds and place people into different alternate realities.
Despite the mission of saving his kind from extinction, Rico still feels like he does not belong. Being a son of a human and a Luth Bik makes him feel like an outcast. However, he finds a woman who makes him feel as if he belongs.
