Richard Trevino, Jr.’s autobiography “Legion” tells the story of the author during his time in the army. He provided confessions in the book for his family about why he did not return home. This book is his way to address his feelings that have been bottled up for way too long.
The author joined the Army and fought his way to victory. Being in the Army created some sort of detachment from his family as they wanted him to focus on the war than going home in a box. They did not tell him that his beloved grandmother had passed away months ago.
After the war, he went home to his family, but the experience of normal life seemed odd to him. He felt alone and isolated. When he found an information packet about the French Foreign Legion, he got the idea of joining an army once again. This time, he’d like to take part in another troop other than the U.S. Army for new adventures. He took his flight to France and joined the French Foreign Legion.
Legion serves as an apology and reason for the author for leaving home without telling anyone. Through the years, he thought about telling his family about his reason for leaving home, but as a Mexican-American, he was taught to not show any emotions about it. However, years went by, and his feelings bottled up and needed to be expressed.
The author considers writing as a form of therapy to keep his feeling intact and sanity in equilibrium. He had no regrets for doing what he did because things might not have happened for the betterment of his life.
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, “Legion: A Texan’s Adventure in the French Foreign Legion” by Richard Trevino, Jr. is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
Author’s Biography
Born in the oil and ranch region of South Texas in a small town called Alice, the birthplace of Tejano music, to a poor working-class family. There was no work for his family in Alice in the early 70s, and subsequently having to move to San Marcos, which is on the edge of the Texas Hill Country, looking for better jobs and better opportunities for the small family. As a young boy, he yearned for adventure and always wanted to see the world. Having to grow up as a ranch hand gave him the strength and determination to be persistent in life. To adapt to any situation and to move forward in life no matter what the situation. Qualities that he would need later in life after joining the US Army and the French Army. From the hills of Korea to the deserts of Africa he has roamed. You know to some people he’s the unluckiest guy in the world but to others, he’s the luckiest S.O.B. you’ll ever meet. Either way, you see it he is Richard Trevino Jr. from a small town in Texas and he is very happy that readers are taking the time to read his little story about his life.
